Another Deer2Succeed DFA field day is set for 2026. This time it’s Otago DFA’s turn and the focus will be on research and will be hosted at the Invermay Research Centre (now part of the Bioeconomy Science Institute, AgResearch Group).
The day will kick off with a BBQ lunch kindly sponsored by Duncan Venison.
Topics will cover
- Feeding nutrition for velvet stags and updates on the research on velvet regrowth and haemostasis.
- A tour of the research farm looking at the Tomorrow’s Deer herd and an update on environmental research including a catchment study on the farm.
- Visits to the DRL (aka Deer Research Laboratory) and the deer CT scanner for updates on parasitology and Johne’s disease.
The day will finish with some light refreshments and a chance for deer farmers to re-connect and socialise.
For those interested, the International Deer Biology Congress will also be holding an opening function at 6 pm in Dunedin (Otago University) so there is further opportunity to talk deer with international researchers.
Registrations will open in January! you will receive another email closer to the time.
