Farm Planning Support and Resources
Farm planning is an important part of running a successful, resilient deer farming business. Good farm planning supports day to day decision making, helps manage risk, and assists farmers to meet evolving environmental, market assurance and regulatory requirements.
Over the past several years, Deer Industry New Zealand delivered the Integrated Farm Planning (IFP) Programme with support from the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Through workshops, resources, tools and one on one support, the programme helped deer farmers build practical farm planning capability across a wide range of topics.
While the IFP Programme has now concluded, the resources and tools developed through the programme remain available to support deer farmers across New Zealand.
What is Farm Planning?
Farm planning brings together the key parts of your farming business into a practical system that supports day to day management, long term planning and ongoing improvement.
Farm planning can cover many interconnected areas of farm management, depending on your farm system, business goals and regulatory requirements.
Some plans may be formal documents stored digitally or in a folder in the office, while others may be practical systems already being used on farm. Bringing these together into written or digital plans can help farmers identify risks and opportunities, improve business performance, support compliance and certification requirements, and strengthen long term farm resilience.
