2022 Next Generation Programme

The NZDFA Next Generation Programme is a programme to foster the growth of those Next Generation deer farmers in the industry that are keen to learn more about deer farming, connect with other like-minded deer farmers and get on farm to see what is possible with the input of knowledge, technology and a little know-how!

The tenth Next Generation Programme is shaping up to be a fantastic event. Based out of Ohakune on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 August, the programme will include farm visits and some theory alongside a social evening in the winter playground of the North Island.

Spaces are limited and registrations are essential

There will be a wait list if spaces exceed the limit, we'll let you know if you are on the wait list once you register.

Please wait until your spot is confirmed before booking flights.

The NZDFA covers the cost of:

  • the programme
  • evening function meal
  • ground transport for attendees flying in

You'll have to cover the costs of:

  • accommodation
  • breakfasts
  • travel to/from Ohakune and transport between farms if you aren't flying in
  • flights if needed

Remember to have a talk to your local branch to see if they're able to support you to attend and get behind this great initiative.

Day before, Wednesday 10th August
Attendees coming from the South Island who need transport will need to fly into Palmerston North airport by 6pm before we drive to Ohakune. You will need to book 2 nights accommodation in Ohakune.

Day 1, Thursday 11th August
Start 9:30am at Waihi Pukawa Station in Turangi

Day 2, Friday 12th August
Balquhidder Farm
Finish 2:00pm Ruapehu Deer Stud in Taihape

Transport

For attendees flying in, we're providing transport between Palmerston North airport and the farms (all other attendees will need to provide their own transport).

To work with our ground transport timings, you'll need to fly into Palmerston North airport before 6:15pm the night before - on the 10th, we'll drive to Ohakune that evening. On the 12th we'll be back at Palmerston North airport around 3:10pm for 3:55pm flights.

If flights back home are limited, get in touch with Rebecca before booking and we will see if we can organise a van to leave earlier.

Accommodation

There are several accommodation options in Ohakune but as they book fast, we would recommend booking as soon as you can.

We have limited rooms held until 24th July at Ruapehu Mountain Motel and Lodge (4/6 Foyle Street, Ohakune). If you would like to stay here, for more information on pricing, available rooms, configuration of beds and to book, contact Leigh info@ruapehumotel.co.nz or 06 385 8470.

NOTE: Rooms here are limited, once they run out you will need to make accommodation arrangements elsewhere. If you have secured a room with multiple beds or rooms and would be happy to share, please let Rebecca know to be put in touch with someone else who wants to share and split costs.

Four bedroom Chalet - 7 (or 8) persons
Studio Motel units - 2 (or 3) persons/unit
Two bedroom unit - 2 persons
Two bedroom apartment - 3 (or 4) persons
