Suttie, J.M. (1987) Growth promoting hormones and antler development
Antler Symosium|Global Trends in Wildlife Management|Intl. Congress of Game Biologists
This paper reviews the data from studies which have measured circulating growth promoting hormones in deer, namely growth hormone (GH) insulin like growth factors and steroids and then speculates ib the local growth factors which may be involved with antler growth

Niezen, J.H. (1993) Growth responses in red deer calves and hinds grazing red clover, chicory and perennial ryegrass/white clover swards during lactation.
Journal of Agricultural Science
This paper provides a comparison between growth responses of red deer hinds and calves during lactation when graazing equal allowances of red clover, chicory and perennial ryegrass/white clover and to study responses to a range of allowances of red clover. The main conclusions reached were that red clover offers potential as a special purpose forage for deer production and that further experimental work is needed with chicory

Semiadi, G. (1994) Growth, milk intake and behaviour of artificially reared Sambar deer (Cervus unicolor) and Red deer (Cervus elaphus) fawns.
Journal of Agricultural Science
The aims of this study were to develop procedures for the artificial rearing of young sambar deer fawns, to determine the normal body dimensions at birth, to measure milk intake and growth rate of these sambar fawns, and to compare them with red deer reared under similar conditions
