Ataja, A.M. (1992) Early venison production from red deer (Cervus elaphus) as affected by grazing perennial or annual ryegrass pastures, pasture surface height and immunization against melatonin.
Journal of Agricultural Science
This paper presents a production system which emphasises the feasibility of early venison production from grazed pastures in New Zealand

Webster, J.R. (2000) Effect of diet energy density and season on voluntary dry-matter and energy intake in male red deer.
Animal Science
Investigation of the ability of deer to regulate food intake during winter and spring by feeding diets of differing energy densities. The study demonstrates that deer have target growth rates and or/energy intakes that change with season, and are defended by adjusting food intake

Asher, G. W. (2010) Effect of exogenous melatonin implants on the incidence and timing of puberty in female red deer (Cervus elaphus)
DEEResearch library

Grace, N.D. (2004) Effect of increasing Mo intakes on the Cu status of deer
It has been well documented that increasing intakes of Mo, in the presence of S, increase the dietary Cu requirements of cattle and sheep. The consequences of the Cu x Mo interaction in grazing deer have not been studied. The objectives of this study were to (1) study the effect of increasing Mo intakes on the Cu status of deer; and (2) evaluate the effect that an application of a Cu-amended fertiliser has on the Cu status of deer grazing high Mo pastures

Ataja, A.M. (1992) Effect of live immunisation against LHRH and melatonin on growth and plasma hormone concentrations in red deer stags during their second year.
Journal of Agricultural Science
This paper discusses the investigation of the effect of active immunisation against LHRH and melatonin upon the liveweight gain of 15-month old red deer stags during the breeding season aand the following year

Urlich, S.L. (2006) Effect of peroxyacetic acid-based carcass wash on the onset of ‘blown pack’ spoilage of vacuum-packed chilled venison
In a recent study funded by MWNZ, the Food Safety Group at Ruakura, showed that peroxyacetic acid, a chemical agent now approved by FSANZ for use as a carcass rinse, significantly inactivated Clostridium estertheticum spores when used alone or in combination with heat treatment. The study investigated the activity of peroxyacetic acid against Cl. estertheticum spores in venison.

Grace, N.D. (2002) Effect of the application of copper to pasture on the copper status of grazing weaner, yearling and mature hinds
A report prepared for the New Zealand Fertiliser Manufacturers' Research Association Inc.(www.fertresearch.org.nz)
The objective of this paper was to evaluate the use and effectiveness of copper top-dressing to increase and maintain the copper status of weaner, yearling and mature hinds as an approach to prevent copper deficiency in grazing deer

Grace, N.D. (2001) Effect of topdressing pasture with copper on the copper status of young red deer (Cervus elaphus).
NZVA Deer Branch Conf. Proceedings
Copper is an important trace element in the nutrition of deer. This study reports on the efficacy of topdressing copper and the seasonal cooper status of grazing deer
