Asher, G. W. (2000) Development and Application of Assisted Reproductive Technologies
Asian/Australasian Jnl. of Animal Science
This paper reviews established and emerging assisted reproductive technologies - ARTs - for red deer and wapiti that have implications for accelerating rates of genetic improvement

Document type: Published Journal Article
Keywords: artificial insemination, artificial reproduction, Cervus, genetic improvement, red, reproduction, wapiti
Tate, M.L. (1994) Development and applications of a genetic linkage map of deer
International Deer Biology Congress
Describes the applications of a gene map to (1) systematically search for key genes which determine the differences in morphology, physiology and biology of deer species and (2)compare and integrate genetic studies of deer with those of more intensively studied mammals, such as mice, humans and cattle.
The paper suggests that a deer gene map will become a basic tool in the study of deer genetics and will give new insights into evolution of natural populations and the production and breeding of farmed deer

Webster, J.R. (1997) Development of methods for measuring GRF and SRIF in hypophyseal portal blood of male red deer.
Journal of Animal Science
Growth in male deer is seasonal. GH pattern alters with growth state. This abstract looks at a possible method for examining the basis for different GH patterns

Broda, D.M. (2003) Development of Rapid PCR Kit for Detection of 'Blown Pack'-Causing Clostridia
The aim of the study was to develop a rapid and sensitive procedure for the detection of blown-pack-causing spores on dressed deer carcasses and to convert this procedure into a kit format

Barry, T.N. (1993) Development of Special Purpose Forage Systems for Deer Production
NZVA Deer Branch Conf. Proceedings
This paper demonstrates that early venison production by 12 months of age from grazed forages to meet specifications to achieve premium prices is possible with red deer

Barry, T.N. (1993) Development of specialist forage systems for deer production.
International Grasslands Congress.
The aim of this study was to investigate red clvoer as special purpose forages for deer production with the objective of increasing growth over lactation and during the post-weaning phase before slaughter at one year of age. It was concluded from the studies that red clover offers considerable potential as a special purpose forage for deer production
