Invermay weaning report 2022

Mar 4, 2022

This week the across-breed connectedness (ABC) progeny were weaned at Invermay. This is part of one of our key science projects, the Tomorrow’s Deer project, and involves eight industry sires, five red and three wapiti to strengthen genetic connections across herds and breeds. This will help underpin DEERSelect version 2 which will include the first across-breed analysis and breeding values.

Sires were contributed by DEERSelect breeders to provide a good variety of genetics and the best connections. We are committed to keeping everybody in industry up to date with the progress of these animals throughout the year.

Below are the details of the weaning weights of the singleton progeny (because we had a few twins). They are the average weaning weight by breed and sire, as well as the average weaning for each sex, and the number of single progeny weaned.
