Deer 2 $ucceed – Hawkes Bay DFA
On 30 July and a gloriously sunny Hawkes Bay winter day, over 40 people gathered at the Ongaonga Golf Club for the second Hawkes Bay Deer 2 $ucceed field day.
A more fulsome report will follow but suffice to say the day did not disappoint the attendees. First up was a visit to Richard and Emma Lawson’s farm and viewing the deer shed and yards with a pour-on rubber safety matting surface (very nice!) and a discussion on lameness. Then down the road to see Tom and Becs Holden’s farm which finishes the venison weaners from Richard and Emma. A great example of partnership and open communication between both parties. The afternoon session was a mix of presentations (on ticks) and identifying priorities and challenges for deer farmers and the wider industry.
