Your Farm. Your Power.

Solar & Electric Vehicles for Southland Deer Farmers

Open to all Southland deer farmers — bring a neighbour!

Speakers

Becks Smith  |  Solayer Integrated Energy Solutions

Becks is a sheep, beef and deer farmer from Ranfurly — and the founder of her own solar company. She started Solayer because she couldn't find anyone who truly understood how to make solar work for farmers like her. Now she does it for others.

Alex de Boer  |  EMVC, Invercargill

Alex and the team at EMVC (Electric Motor Vehicle Company) are developing electric vehicle solutions built for New Zealand conditions. He'll be bringing a selection of electric on-farm vehicles to try, including a Hisun Elite UTV, plus their own locally developed battery.

What We'll Cover

  • From paddock to power: Becks walks through her own 55 kW solar installation — from the first conversation to running costs today — including how pairing solar with a 30 kW irrigation pump is cutting electricity costs by 50% in year one.
  • Batteries: the missing piece: Solar gets you through the day — battery storage keeps you running at night and when the grid goes down. We'll cover what's available, what it costs, and what's right for a farm operation.
  • Could it work on your place? Tony and Michelle are currently exploring whether solar is right for their operation — Becks will use their property as a live case study to walk through what a system could look like and what the numbers might say.
  • Electric vehicles on farm: Alex de Boer from EMVC will bring a selection of electric on-farm vehicles to try, including a Hisun Elite UTV, plus their locally developed battery.
  • Beyond solar: An overview of wind and water as alternative or complementary energy options.

Thinking about making the switch? Bring a copy of your winter and summer power bills. Becks won't be able to do a full assessment on the day, but if you fill in a short form she can kick off a free proposal for your property.

Afternoon tea provided. Registrations are essential for catering purposes.
